I 56th this suggestion. I'm just working on a presentation where most of the slides are best presented in landscape orientation, but there's one particular image in a portrait orientation that I'd be able to show in much larger form if I could show it on a portrait oriented slide. I can still present the image in the middle of a landscape oriented slide, but the image shows smaller on screen because of it. Alas, wouldn't it be great if I could show the image at its best/largest where both the image and slide orientation match! This is not the first time I've encountered this frustration/disappointment.

I would LOVE to see this work in PowerPoint. The work around does not work well in a large presentation of photos that you would like to run automatically in a slide show.

        PLEASE??

It's almost 2018, and why this is even a question of whether or not it is needed is disturbing. We've been landing people on the moon since the 60's, and we have to beg Microsoft to give us a simple feature. Just get it done!!!

The proposed workaround is a joke - this used to be straightforward in older versions of ppt

Using both portrait and landscape slides should be a given. This was a let down as I am creating an educational presentation from a variety of sources that come in both layouts. Please make this feature available.

Why would you want to do that? Your screen most times is landscape, not square.

Mixing landscape and portrait slides in presentations is necessary. Please add this option.
