Dynamic reuse of slides
I very frequently reuse slides from other decks but the current reuse by copy model doesn't work for me because there's no way to check whether the slide has been updated by the owner. Ideally, when I reuse a slide I would like it to maintain a link to where I got the slide from and if it is changed, change it in my deck as well. Or at least prompt me to flow the changes in the original slide through to my deck.

YES! Make this happen please!
I tend to agree with Dustin. A productivity tool like powerpoint definitely would benefit from this typical use-case. This should have been there already years ago.
I read support fora on how to use 'powerpoint libraries', 'sharepoint', 'reuse slides' and so on. None of them support this use-case. PowerPivot in Excel actually is the closest thing actually working.
That tool enables to link to external sources. (and refresh content if need be)
Use Case : I get several master powerpoints from different team members. We do work with sharepoint. We then make one consolidating presentation with extracts from each powerpoint. Each week, I then want to simply press refresh/update instead of manually copy-pasting. 100% sure, this use-case has many derivatives.
Those who work as a group generally have a summary slide deck which takes several slides form other more detailed decks. Having to copy paste constantly is a waste of time. How has this not been done yet? Especially for those using SharePoint, should have been done years ago.
There actually is a way to do this already by creating create a link to the other presentation slide.
Create a new slide. Click on the "Insert" tab. Choose "Object" under the insert tab (far right). Choose "Create from file". Insert or browse to the file and then check "Link" for automatic updates whenever you open the main presentation. Seems like it only takes the first slide if you linked a presentation.
I have a need for this as well, where I work we have some strategic slides that I need to have in multiple ppt files for different meetings, and being able to reference a central slide, that I can update in one location, and those updates permeate to all the places that slide is referenced, would save a lot of time and would be extremely helpful on aligning messaging.
