What about Alt N, U? Is that what you are looking for?
Or for one you use commonly, just know the character code:
Alt N, U, Alt C, 0264 (example) -

Please change the mode of Insert Symbol dialog box to floating one as it is in Word. If you have to insert the same symbol several times, you have to open the dialog window several times. Word has a floating window, and you can insert symbol just passing to a new insertion point.

It is 2017 and it is still difficult to quickly find the character symbol for inserting into text. Please help users find their symbols quickly. When I am in powerpoint and wish to add a symbol into a text, I have a difficult time finding the pi symbol. I am an engineering student and like many other science majored student, I too have the need to insert typical greek letters for mathematical variables. I want to be able to type 'pi' or 'sigma' or other keywords and the symbols pop up for selection. Please do something to make it easier. I don't want to have to hunt for ALT codes on google to do this. Please fix!
