File linking requires OLE. OLE exists only in Windows and to a very limited extent, Office for Mac. It is not supported in Office Online, SharePoint or Office for Mobile devices.

This is clear evidence that Microsoft purposely hobbles the Mac version of PowerPoint. A font theme is a simple text file, there's no technical reason they can't program such a utility. They just won't. As a workaround, here's my article on how to create a font theme with a text editor: http://www.brandwares.com/bestpractices/2015/10/xml-hacking-font-themes/

I agree, this should be added to the program interface. Until that time, here's how to create a Font Theme file using TextEdit: http://www.brandwares.com/bestpractices/2015/10/xml-hacking-font-themes/

My article at http://www.brandwares.com/bestpractices/2015/10/xml-hacking-font-themes/ describes how to do this using a text editor like TextEdit.

PowerPoint does a relatively crummy job of picking up video feeds in Windows to use as the webcam in recording a slide show. I currently have OBS Studio set up as a VirtualCam. Zoom sees it as a source, Microsoft Teams sees it, but not PowerPoint. Others have posted on answers.microsoft.com about valid video sources that aren't seen by PowerPoint as a webcam. Please fix!

Design Ideas makes extensive use of XML locking. Here's how to lock and unlock graphics in PowerPoint: http://www.brandwares.com/bestpractices/2016/09/xml-hacking-locking-graphics/

After placing a point and its handles where you want them, right-click on the point and choose Corner Point. Then the handles will not move when an adjacent point is moved.

That's the whole point of having two different placeholder types. If you want the behavior of a Picture placeholder, use a Picture placeholder, not a Content placeholder.

Create a custom layout with picture and text placeholders. Create a new slide for each screenshot, insert the picture, type in the text. Job done.

PowerPoint does this already. Create a custom template, turn on slide numbering, then create all new decks from that template. They will all have slide numbering.

Layers are _not_ necessary. Microsoft simply needs to respect the master stacking order on the slide, that's all. Here are 4 workarounds until this gets fixed: http://www.brandwares.com/bestpractices/2019/08/logos-over-photos-best-practices/

Does Microsoft want to continue into the 21st century? Wake up to one of the most commonly asked for changes on answers.microsoft.com: The stacking order on the Master and Layout must also apply to the slide! Duh!

In all versions of PowerPoint, an image placeholder stacked behind an autoshape on a slide layout will display the placeholder stacked above the autoshape on a slide. The stacking or z-order of layout placeholders and shapes should be displayed the same way on slides.

This one is easy. Create one or more additional Slide Masters.

This is why PowerPoint includes VBA: so you can write a macro that updates all presentations in a folder.

Not a bug. If you can't see all the fonts, you have a problem with your installation of the program.

You can lock shapes by editing the XML. No need to prevent viewing, since the shapes are not editable. Here's how: http://www.brandwares.com/bestpractices/2016/09/xml-hacking-locking-graphics/

PowerPoint already does this. In the layout, uncheck Footers, then recheck it. Voila! It's reset!

If slide masters get added, it's because the template was poorly designed. Here's an explanation: http://www.brandwares.com/bestpractices/2018/11/legacy-slides-brandwares-best-practices/

Is Office open-sourced or not? Open it up, if you want (or need) participation for the programming community.

Posting a .ppsx file should automatically launch it in PowerPoint Online. There's no good reason for any other behavior. Duh.
